You can use this checklist when summarising a text:

 

• Have I copied phrases/sentences from the original (thus committing plagiarism)?

• Have I changed the style of the original to my own writing style?

 

• Have I chosen the most important points for the purposes of my text?

• Have I misunderstood the original in any way?

​

• Is the meaning of my summarised text the same as that of the original?

​

• Is my text coherent and cohesive?

​

• Have I acknowledged the source following the required citation style guide?
